Presentation “‘Write and Tell Me How You’re Doing’: Postcards and Social Ties Between Urban and Rural Areas in Russia”

The Pochtovoye project was presented at the IRSA 2026 World Congress of Rural Sociology in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
As part of the congress, Timur Khusyainov and Melissa Pink Macedo de Castro presented a study on communication between rural and urban areas in the Russian Empire and the USSR, based on pre-revolutionary and Soviet postcards. The presentation was delivered in Portuguese and attracted the interest of participants from Brazil, Portugal, and Spain.
The session concluded with a small postal initiative: participants received postcards from the Pochtovoye project as gifts, taking with them a small “postal” greeting from Russia.
