Nizhny Novgorod Residents Will Be Able to Decipher a Late-19th-Century Postcard at a Workshop

Den Goroda. Nizhny Novgorod announces the “Journey Through Postcards” workshop at the V. V. Mayakovsky Library. Timur Khusyainov will introduce participants to the history of postcards and invite them to decipher messages dating from 1880–1917. The publication is directly connected with hands-on postal heritage research.
Anyone can bring a pre-revolutionary postcard from their family archive to the workshop.
Den Goroda. Nizhny Novgorod announces the “Journey Through Postcards” workshop, which will take place at the V. V. Mayakovsky Library. Timur Khusyainov will introduce participants to the history of postcards in Russia and the development of postal communication.
During the practical session, participants will be able to decipher a postcard sent between 1880 and 1917 and discuss the history reflected in its message. They will also learn about notable finds and unusual cases connected with historical correspondence.
Anyone will be able to bring a pre-revolutionary postcard from a family archive and share what is known about its sender, recipient and history. This format turns family postal documents into material for collaborative historical research and closely matches the focus of the “Pochtovoe” project.
